The National Association for the Education of Young Children Essay Example for Free

The National Association for the Education of Young Children Essay The elementary school teacher decided to integrate reading and writing into geometry lessons to improve the scores of students. In particular, the students had to use the names of geometric objects as well as their other attributes to write the poems. The experiment has shown a significant improvement in geometry scores. Making children more involved with the task at hand and making tasks more interesting were the main reasons for improvement in scores. The author confirmed my personal belief that the children will only learn school subjects better if they are personally involved with them on some level. In this scenario, they liked writing poems because they thought the poems were fun. They gladly extended their knowledge of geometry to use it in their poems. However, geometry is a difficult subject to learn for many people, not just children. I suspect the main reason is because it seems to be boring. By making geometry fun, we can easily enhance our learning and make our learning sessions more productive. Having been a student myself for many years, I agree with the author that the first priority in learning should be placed on getting a person to be more involved with the task. The best way to do it is to make the task interesting. The author proves that even the most â€Å"boring† school subjects can become suddenly interesting if we will tie them to some interesting activity. This experiment sheds some light on how effective learning occurs. It seems as if the most effective learning takes place when we experiment with different ways of looking at things, and we try to extend our observations beyond what we normally see. This article plays a very important role in understanding the learning process in our brains.

Nursing Ethics: Patient Abandonment Essay -- Nursing Case Study

This case study examines a case of an LPN who became ill while about halfway through her shift and chose to go home. This LPN was assigned to care for five patients in an obstetrical ward, four of which were considered stable. The fifth patient was awaiting an obstetrical consultation when the LPN became ill and vomited. At this time, she notified the other nurses and, subsequently, the charge nurse that she needed to leave due to illness. The charge nurse instructed her to notify her supervisor prior to leaving the facility; however, the LPN chose not to do so and went home. Her reasoning in not notifying her supervisor as she was instructed was that she feared that the supervisor would ask her to go to the emergency room for care. The LPN testified that she did not want to pay for an emergency visit and that she intended to make an appointment with her family doctor early that same day. The facility terminated the LPN’s contract and also reported her to the state boa rd of nursing for patient abandonment. As a judgment, the board of nursing suspended here nursing license pending a psychological examination and fined her $1000 for abandoning her patients. In this paper, we will examine the viewpoints of the LPN, the charge nurse, and the nursing supervisor as they relate to the Nurse Practice Act and the board of nursing. While the art of nursing has been around for centuries, the United States enacted the first nursing laws in 1903. The first nursing acts where developed as a response to conflict between nursing roles and physician roles. Nursing Practice Acts are enacted by each state’s legislature. Texas enacted the Nurse Practice Act in 1909. Poetry and Worldly Wealth Essay

Andrew Lang describes the truth about money and what it meant to people in the 1800s and 1900s. He uses repetition to clearly explain his ideas. Lang believes that money could either be good or it could be evil, I guess it all depends in how you use it and appreciate it. The people in this poem are priests, soldiers, captains etc. The main idea is about how some and most people only do things for money. The â€Å"Ballad of Worldly Wealth,† is a depiction of how money can bring pride and corruption into our society. The form of this poem is a ballad. A ballad’s contents include 3 stanzas, at least 8 lines in each stanza, and a refrain (a repeated phrase at the end point of a poem) a refrain in example of the Ballad of Worldly Wealth is â€Å"Youth, and health, and Paradise† The author used artificial imagery to characterize money as both a staple in society, and as the icon of the world’s power and corruption. There is several rhetoric patterns found in the poem. The rhyme pattern is an End rhyme. Poems with end rhyme are those whose last word of every line ends with a word that rhymes, for example: â€Å"While the tides shall ebb and (flow); Money maketh Evil (show)† Flow and show are two separate words, however both have rhyming sounds. Also displayed is parallel construction, a sentence, idea or clause that is presented with an opposing idea. In this statement, â€Å"Money moves the merchants all, While the tides shall ebb and flow; Money maketh Evil show, Like the Good, and Truth like lies† it can be seen that the opposition is of that money is what makes the world go round. However money also creates greed, and makes the people see the money as a good thing, when really it’s all a lie.

Short Stories From Flannery O Connor The Complete...

The selected short stories from Flannery O’Connor: The Complete Stories and Stories of the Modern South invite many types of criticism all of which require close reading which is essential for student learning. Combining stories selected from these two books with Reader Response criticism is an excellent way to introduce students to the art of literary criticism. Reader Response criticism provides students with the opportunity to combine reading for pleasure and reading with a purpose and the short stories written by William Faulkner, Caroline Gibson, Carson McCullers, and Eudora Welty contain themes of the gothic and grotesque which grab the reader and hold them spellbound until the end of the story, but somehow leave them wanting more.†¦show more content†¦Warren Akin IV believes that Rider â€Å"†¦ Has sympathetic qualities, so we do not want him to suffer. And when he does suffer, we see his responses as believable manifestations of grief† (398). Faulk ner and O Connor s use of the Southern vernacular creates a realistic feel for the reader. â€Å"The Brilliant Leaves,† by Caroline Gordon lures the reader into what appears to be a story about a lovely summer resort where a young man, Jimmy anxiously anticipates seeing his young lady again. The story implies that Jimmy is attempting to re-ignite a summer romance, but Evelyn seems less than enthusiastic and distracted. The meeting between the two feels stilted and uncomfortable and does not improve as the story progresses. Students can speculate as to the state of the relationship between Jimmy and Evelyn, by suggesting the reason that she does not want Jimmy to meet her train or why her physical responses shift from amorous to prudish and back again. She responds to Jimmy’s marriage proposal by telling him, â€Å"They wouldn’t let us †¦ we’re too young† (226). Then in the very next sentence, she tells Jimmy, â€Å"I’m perfectly crazy about you† (226). They walk together toward Bridal Veil Falls, which eventually leads to the accident where Evelyn falls from the rock on the waterfall.
