IOT Home Automation-Free-Sample for Students-Myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the IOT Home Automation. Answer: Introduction Internet of Things or IOT is a technology that uses the internet to monitor and control the electronic, mechanical and physical devices connected over internet (Yang, 2014). IOT for home automation is an interesting project where the devices of modern home are controlled and operated with the help of internet. This helps in automating the modern homes through internet. Problem Definition Managing and controlling all the appliances running is a home becomes difficult. This is because convectional wall switches are located in the different parts of the house and thus it becomes difficult to keep track of all the appliances that are running Solution with features In order to deal with the problem stated above, the project Home Automation System is proposed that will not only control and monitor all the appliances of a house over WIFI but also provide an additional security. It will provide feature of a smart home and effective monitoring of all the devices and appliances running inside the home. It is simple and easy to use and will benefit mainly the aged and disable people in the house. How it works? Home-automation is a system of networked and controllable devices that work coordinated to make the home customized, comfortable, efficient and secure. The home automation is generally operated with the help of a Smartphone app. A user-friendly interface of the application enables the user to control the home appliances like lighting, ventilation, Air Conditioning, security and other home appliances very easily and effectively. A specific microcontroller is adjusted with the devices, for receiving commands from the user. The microcontroller is connected with the modem of the Wi-Fi so that the devices are able to reeceive the user commands. After receiving the user commands over the Wi-Fi network, the microcontrollers processes the instructions to operate accordingly (Lee et al., 2013). The system status is displayed in the Smartphone app and thus it helps efficient management in relation to the home automation system. Figure 1: Representation of Wi-Fi bases Home Automation System (Source: ElShafee Hamed, 2012) Project Overview Home-automation is process of controlling the household appliances over electronic means, specifically internet. The project involves the automated control over the temperature of the house, doors and windows apart from the household appliances. It uses a micro controller to control the users commands. The whole system is controlled using a Smartphone application (Piyare, 2013). The structure of the home automation system is shown below- Figure 1: The structure of the Project Home Automation System (Source: ElShafee Hamed, 2012) Project objectives The objective of the project Home-Automation system is listed below- Application of a reliable and scalable home automation IOT system The system will be used to control the household devices and appliances remotely using a microcontroller. Up grading the traditional system of convectional switches to a centralized control system using a microcontroller and Smartphone app. Designing a Smartphone application to communicate with the microcontrollers Project Scope The project focuses on application of a home automation system in low cost and wireless technology. This system would not only make the home a comfortable place of living but also help the old, elderly and disabled people at home (Domingo, 2012). This system of smart-home will improve the idea and standard living. Moreover, the development technology of the home-automation system is user-friendly. The automation system can be accessed with the help of the internet. Technology Exposure Technology exposures provided by the project are Android open source technology (Smartphone operating system) Wi-Fi technology Interfacing relays with ac and dc power sources (Want, Schilit Jenson, 2015). Use of transistor as Switch Embedded programming The benefits (pros) of Home Automation Energy efficient- All the appliances can be controlled remotely with the help of a Smartphone, hence it saves energy. Convenient- the system is very convenient to use as the whole system can be controlled with a Smartphone. Comfortable- the system makes the home a more comfortable place. Security- provides an additional security to home thorough automated locking system of the doors and windows. Disadvantages (cons) of the Home automation system The disadvantages of home automation system are as follows- The cost of equipment and the installation cost are very high. The cost is considerably higher for more advanced system. The whole system crashes even if there is an issue in a single connection. Although the system is reliable but sometimes, even the technology cannot be trusted fully. Need of Wi-Fi and a Smartphone is necessary to access the system (ElShafee Hamed, 2012). Conclusion Therefore, from the above discussion, it can be concluded that the project, home automation system can be applied and implemented for remotely controlling the home appliances to make it more secure and comfortable. The system interacts with the Smartphone using the microprocessor connected with the appliances. This system would be very beneficial for the elderly as well as the disabled people. However, there are certain limitations in implementation of the project. References Domingo, M. C. (2012).
